Sports Betting Incidents Continue to Rise

Over the past several months I have posted about a confluence of betting incidents involving athletes, coaches, and other staff personnel in college and pro sports. The Athletic reported yesterday that since April, five NFL players have been suspended for violation of the league’s gambling policy. Yesterday Sports Handle disclosed an Indianapolis Colts player placed hundreds of bets including some placed on his own team. He allegedly made the wagers through an account opened by an acquaintance.

I am certain athletes betting on games is not something new. It is now under the microscope because of the ease with which we can place a bet and the leagues embracing the betting process through partnerships and excessive advertising. The real question is what do we do about it? This problem will only become more pervasive if preventive measures are not put in place.
